Wiring an old house for the digital age?
My house, which was built in the 70s, was flooded this past spring. We gutted the floors and the bottom 4′ of drywall. We’re now preparing to rebuild.I believe this would be an excellent opportunity to run network and A/V cables throughout Building Fiber Proof the house. There is no obvious place to install a patch panel. Would placing cable modems, routers, etc inside a closet cause problems due to poor ventilation. Is there an easy way to “future-proof” a wiring setup so that coax could later be replaced by fiber optic, or whatever other standard may exist 10 years from now without tearing the house apart again? Is running the wiring up into the attic generally the best way to run cable in a single floor house with a crawlspace? Any other design considerations or resources to recommend?
